Do not take down the Comfort Women statue of Berlin

The Issue

Comfort women are Korean and other Asian women who were forced to work as sex slaves for the Japanese soldiers. These women were either captured or tricked into becoming comfort women. Many were killed by the Japanese soldiers once they became ill or died from STIs. However, the Japanese government still denies their past even to this day.

Recently, a Japanese politician named Mr. Moteki demanded city of Berlin to take down the Comfort Women statue – which is places in various places around the world to commemorate the sexual violence victims and spread awareness. Mr. Moteki stated that “I can only ask why the German people, who have permitted this to happen, failed to carry research into the facts of the ‘comfort women’.” Unfortunately City of Berlin complied to his request. Mr. Moteki and those who see this statue as something that makes Japan look bad are missing its point.

This statue isn’t meant to make Japan look bad, but to alert the public about the history of human – women’s rights violation that happened in WWII, just like the Holocaust Museum.

Help us fight to keep the statue in its original place and for the human rights of the sexual slavery victims!!
