I wanted to share an important update with you.

As you know, on March 3, we launched our effort to put our ordinance to reinstate the ban on public camping on the November ballot.

This week we hit an important milestone: We have collected 25 percent of the signatures we need to put reinstating the ban on public camping on the November ballot.

To date, we have collected 5,000+ signatures. We need to submit 20,000 signatures from Austin residents by July 18 to qualify for the November ballot.

Shelter-at-home guidelines have slowed down our progress, so we have shifted to use texting to engage and educate Austin residents and mail to collect signatures.

Using volunteers, we have personally mailed several thousand petitions to willing signers in the past two weeks. Using a local mailhouse, we mailed 13,000 petitions last week.

We are putting the finishing touches on a 44,000 household mailer that we want to drop Friday or Monday.

These mailings are not cheap. The 13,000 household mailer cost $7,500. The 44,000 household mailer will cost $18,000.

---

I know this is a difficult time. I am sorry to be asking for financial support for our efforts.

But our deadline is July 18 and that deadline does not respect the challenges presented by coronavirus.

Would you help us fund our advertising campaign and additional mail efforts?
