Coronavirus is on all of our minds.

Preventing community spread is the primary reason we are all sheltering at home.

I am concerned that the City of Austin continues to allow homeless camping in public even during a pandemic.

Two homeless individuals at a Salvation Army facility in Austin recently tested positive.

Even before the coronavirus outbreak, our Save Austin Now coalition believed that reinstating the ban on homeless camping would be good for public safety and public health.

As you know, four the last four week we have been working to collect the 20,000 signatures of Austin residents that we need to put on the November ballot our ordinance to reinstate the ban on public camping.

To date, we have received over 3,500 hard signatures.

This has been made more difficult by the virus outbreak. And while we wish we could stop our efforts temporarily, our July 18 deadline for signatures grows closer every day.
