Help your "Essential" Austin Resource Recovery solid waste employees earn Hazard Pay.

Help your "Essential" Austin Resource Recovery solid waste employees earn Hazard Pay.
The Issue
My name is Clinton Dale. I am one of many Austin Resource Recovery Solid Waste Employees. It has been put upon my heart and mind to contribute to a growing complication that rises as Covid 19 debilitates the function of Austin, Texas Residents and Workers. Within our work force we have around 375 "essential" solid waste employees that will continue to work in the rising challenges of the Pandemic. We are a community of hard working individuals, most of which have family, and may also have partners who are unable to work due to service industry shutdowns throughout the City. I am very grateful to continue working in such challenging times as so many are not. With this petition I am asking you all to weigh in on a financial dynamic that could make the survival of these new and chaotic challenges that have reached our unique city. To be concise: The nature of our work has us in contact with solid waste and solid waste-soiled containers. Yes, it is the nature of our jobs. We signed up for such and it is what we do. We are equipped with the personal protective equipment mandated by our qualified and appreciated Safety Team. Safety of employees, residents, and motorists is the primary directive of our role. With the rise of this global Pandemic, as any can see, the risks/concerns to health are greatly amplified even within are well crafted procedures. The stakes are higher. I want to contribute to the health and well being of my fellow co workers by encouraging you to verify the need of Hazard Pay for your Essential Austin Resource Recovery solid waste workers. I am not implying that money will make the Pandemic go away. I am stating that certain earned financial adjustments made to our wages can greatly increase the effective function of numerous individuals and families within our collective work groups. This is not a cry for permanent wage increase but simply an instituted Hazard "Time and a half" pay from March 17th 2020 until the emergency status ends. We know our jobs and for many of us the ability to earn in a way that benefits the community resonates with us. Frankly, many families will go down to half of an income due to partner spouse job shut downs. There has to be adjustments made to the other half to succeed. As Austin Residents, City Government Officials, Humanitarian Advocates, and my fellow co workers of Austin Resource Recovery please aid us as we continue to do our jobs in complicated dangerous work environments. Thank you for taking the time to read my petition. I will not claim to be the voice of ARR but I do care for these Men and Women. I care about the welfare of their families. I care about all of us getting through this. This petition is a slice of a greater whole that is all of Austin. Please support this pursuit; To see us all get through this with our health intact and with as little financial tragedy as possible.
