Thanks to you all, the 23K+ supporters who signed the petition to Keep Austin Building and show support for the approximately 80,000 construction related employees and their ability to continue to build the essential projects Austin needs for its economic security in these unprecedented times. This petition is officially being closed and a VICTORY declared!
On March 31, Governor Greg Abbott signed Executive Order No. GA-14 ordering all parts of Texas to allow essential activities and services, including most construction, based on the Department of Homeland Security’s guidelines on the Essential Critical Infrastructure Workforce beginning 12:01am, April 2nd.
Today, April 2nd around 7pm, the City of Austin issued STAY HOME – WORK SAFE ORDER 20200324-007 which states:
'2. Types of construction work permitted under the Stay Home Order. All construction work permitted in the Governor’s March 31, 2020 Executive Order (No. GA-14) is permitted. City will no longer prohibit commercial or residential construction projects. '
We can now definitively #KeepAustinBuilding!
Thanks again for the overwhelming support shown from all sectors of the community. No proof this petition was viewed by Governor Abbott but through his Executive Order he is allowing thousands of families the ability to continue to support their families, build safely and continue supporting Austin's economic security.
Sincerely,
Glenn Hart
