Stop the Eviction of Auburn Students

The city of Auburn is working to evict students living in the "family zone" of the community. Per section 304 of the City of Auburn Zoning Ordinance, no more than two unrelated people can live in homes in this zone. However, homes in this zone have housed countless students for years with no problem and without ever informing students of this ordinance. We have lived in our house for almost two years, and our home is less than 1 mile from campus. Our street is lined with students. A Tiger Transit runs down our street to pick up students every 15 minutes. However, we (as well as several other homes on our street and other streets around us) were visited by a city planner last week. We were told that because of this ordinance, we are no longer able to live in our home. They informed us that we have 30 days to find a new place to live. It is the end of September. We are five seniors girls all graduating and preparing to move out in May; however, the city will not allow us to live in our home during the remainder of our time at Auburn. We have never received noise complaints, we do not disturb the neighborhood, we keep a clean yard and respect everyone around us. Our goal is to raise awareness of this issue in hopes to overturn this ordinance so that students may not be discriminated against solely for being students. While we love the city of Auburn, we feel like we are being forced out of our home without our voices even being heard. Please sign this petition to bring attention to this issue and show the City of Auburn that students are valuable members of the community and should not be made homeless because of this.
