Moderate The LED Bulbs on Atlanta's Streetlights

This petition had 122 supporters

Atlanta has approved, and allowed the installation of LED street lighting from Georgia Power. The brightness and color used in these LED lights is entirely too extreme. Several of the lights don't even have guards or shields, resulting in residents' homes being lit up like a baseball field at night. It has been scientifically proven that bright cool/blue light disrupts sleeping patterns, and disturbs wildlife. Due to the biological mechanics of the human eye, it also makes dark spots darker, and increases glare.

This petition is for those citizens who would like to see Georgia Power, and the City of Atlanta lower light output of the LED lights, and possibly change them to a warmer/softer light. We are also requesting that Atlanta require Georgia Power to put hoods/shields on all lights, so they do not shine in to residences, but have correct directionality for the output of light. This measure would also help reduce Atlanta's contribution to light pollution.

The LED lights installed by Georgia Power, are estimated to cut power consumption for Georgian cities by up to 50%! That's great, but not for the cities, Georgia Power will keep those savings as profit. So, obviously they can afford to make this change.
