Water is the most important compound in our life.  A safe place means a productive place while a bad place will be more prone to danger.  When water gets contaminated it will become the most dangerous enemy to the human health. As human, we desire to live in a clean place and have a good health. Hence, when the area is polluted it will endanger our health. Our health will then be exposed to diseases such as dengue, leptospirosis and skin diseases. These will threaten the life of the human.

The residents of Barangay San Miguel in Iligan City are suffering with flood problem until this very day and no action has been done by the city government. This problem has been a burden to a lot of residence particularly the people living near St. Michael’s College Basic Education Department. Even if it is only drizzle, flood will then occur in this area which will then affect the road, hassle the people, affect the commuters, passers-by and drivers. It will also cause problems in the business and also having a damage road in the area will be prone to accidents. This leads to uncleanliness of the area and exposure to sickness.

Therefore, solutions must be done not only for the benefit of the students who passes the road daily in order to get to school and to the residence who are living near the area prone to flood but it is for everyone’s benefit not only for people who uses the road today but for the people in the future. So We, the students of St. Michael’s College Basic Education Department are petitioning that the problem not the residence are only facing but also us the students are promoting these solution in order to solve the problems. We envision an area near the school a lot safer to everyone who passes-by.

Solutions as follows:

• Proper segregation of waste shall be given attention in which a strict policy shall be posted that wastes should be thrown according to its category.
• Canals should be maintained clean.
• Unclean water which makes the breeding of mosquitoes and other diseases possible should be eliminated.
• A partnership with the local shall be requested in order to spread the awareness and notify people with the problem in which they can offer help or service.
• A news shall notify the city that ask for volunteer help the program of segregating waste in the area.

The approval of this petition does not only take away the burden of the residence as well as the students but also they promote the cleanliness of the environment and health. When the area is clean it will be a huge help to many people and their good health will be maintained.  In return of the efforts of this campaign: we hope to achieve the maintenance of cleanliness in the area, a better road for everyone and the flood to never occur again in the place and disturb people.
