The Issue

4/8/25: UPDATE!

Y’all, thank you so much for signing! We have been in touch with the Director of Parks - Bill Jordan.

He confirmed that there are still plans from 2022 to add a dog park at McFarland Park. It’s part of a much larger project that is dependent on logistics, funding and community interest.

If you haven’t shared the petition with your friends and family, please do. I think it will help if we can display strong community support.

THANK YOU!

In Florence, where the river sings,

And Handy Fest each summer rings,

Where pickers play and artists roam,

Our pups still have no leash-free loam.

We’ve got lions up at UNA,

A statue strong, both fierce and fey—

But dogs must pass, eyes full of wish,

For lions guard, but don’t throw sticks.

McFarland’s nice for human folk,

But leashes? Frankly, they’re a joke.

Our dogs crave freedom, space to dash—

Not tangled leads or leash-lash rash.

They dream of parks with open gates,

Of shady spots and doggy mates.

A fence! A bench! Perhaps a bone!

A patch of turf to call their own.

From Seven Points to Cox Creek’s bend,

Barks and howls begin to blend:

“We need a park! A place to play!

We’ll stop our chaos—well, halfway.”

A Florence park, well-marked and proud,

Where labs and mutts can run unbowed.

Where locals meet and tails all wag—

A place that earns the whole town’s brag.

So help us give our dogs their due—

And save our socks and couches too.

Sign here to bark, not just complain:

Stand up and shout: canine domain!
