Charlotte Harbor Community Sailing Center 501c

This is a community boating center located at 750 W. Retta Esplanade Punta Gorda, FL.
It provides a valuable service to a vast population of the community. Charlotte Harbor Community Sailing Center, currently offers activities to youth, seniors, disabled, the homeschool community, and more.

CHCSC has been sharing this location with the power squadron, and the YMCA since 2004.

Recently the CHCSC submitted a proposal to lease the Bayfront Center from the City of Punta Gorda. After a cursory look at the proposal submitted by the CHCSC, the City Council decided to award the YMCA the lease of the Bayfront Center.

The City Council did not stipulate the YMCA should allow CHCSC their continued use, of the Bayfront Center.
Currently the CHCSC, Power Squadron, and the YMCA, all share space in the Bayfront Center. A verbal promise was made, at the City Council meeting, to the Power Squadron, that they can continue their operations.

The proposal submitted by the Charlotte Harbor Community Sailing Center, stipulated that the YMCA would be allowed priority access to the Bayfront Center. No such stipulation was submitted in the YMCA's proposal.

The Bayfront Center is uniquely located on Charlotte Harbor. It has access to a hand launch boat ramp, storage areas for boats, and a building with handicap access to facilities. All of these amenities are a necessity, to run the waterborne activities, provided by CHCSC.

Unlike the YMCA, the CHCSC cannot continue to serve the community without a waterfront access, to a boat ramp.

****The YMCA currently does NOT have any waterborne activities that run from the Bayfront Center. *****
The YMCA will NOT be impacted if they move from this building, to another location without waterfront access. Unfortunately, the YMCA has given misinformation to the public, and the Punta Gorda City Council.

The City of Punta Gorda states their mission statement as; To enhance Punta Gorda’s identity as a vibrant waterfront community, unique in character and history, and one of the most desirable places to live, work and visit.

By awarding the lease of the Bayfront Center to the YMCA, it is in direct CONFLICT with their mission statement.

We are asking the community to please get involved, to contact the Punta Gorda City Council, and to ask them to reconsider their decision.

Please help us save the CHCSC, as a valuable resource to the community!
