The Issue
Support the flag-raising ceremony in Markham
On February 3, the General Committee of the Markham City Council voted against the flag-raising ceremony of all other Countries in the City Hall. The final decision needs to be made by the City Council next week. The Markham City Council will cast the vote at about 1 pm on Tuesday (February 11).
The Federation of Chinese Canadian in Markham holds a flag-raising ceremony at the Markham Civic Centre every year on China National Day. The purpose of the ceremony is for Chinese Canadians living in Canada to understand the culture of the Chinese nation while adopting to Canadian culture. We are grateful for the Canadian multiculturalism and inclusion. Not only the Chinese but other ethnic communities have also been holding flag raising ceremonies there..
We will request the Markham municipal Government to retain the policy allowing flag-raising ceremony. We need as Many people as possible to stand up to support our representatives and support the flag-raising ceremony. We sincerely invite everyone from the community to please join us at Markham Civic Centre on February 11 to expressed our appeal for retaining the flag-raising ceremony.
Where: 101 Town Centre Blvd, Markham, ON L3R 9W3 (on HW 7 & Warden)
For people and friends who cannot attend on Feb 11, please sign the Petition, so that wecan impress the Councillors with your support to encourage them to support the continuation of the Flag raising.
