The Issue
As residents of the first ward of Lansing Michigan, we demand for your resignation from city leadership. Your recent conversations over text and social media towards constituents, community leaders, and supporters have been abhorrent, and your paltry acts of apology have been nothing compared to the harm you’ve accomplished in the last month.
The purpose of a City Council member position is to represent what is right, fair, and just for the constituents.
The City of Lansing's mission is to ensure quality of life by:
Promoting a vibrant, safe, healthy and inclusive community that provides opportunity for personal and economic growth for residents, businesses and visitors.
Your actions show that you have disregarded this part of the mission altogether and this will not be tolerated by a representative of the City. To hold a position as you do is a privilege to be revoked at any time, not an entitlement and you must be held accountable for your actions. You have proven that you lack the discipline, self-control, and temperament to hold a position and effectively serve the needs of the people. As a result, we need your immediate resignation from the seat of Lansing City Councilman of the first ward within Lansing Michigan.
The act of censure by the rest of the council, their public statements, and the overwhelming community condemnation from organizations such as BLM Lansing and Greater Lansing DSA stand in stark contrast to the campaign platform and political advocacy you claimed to strive for. You have failed incredibly in trying to represent city council, the majority of community organizations, and the residents of the Eastside.
At this point, the most beneficial act you can do for Lansing and for your own reputation is to save the people of Lansing from having to exert energy on a formal recall petition. The social outcry speaks overwhelmingly for itself. We cannot compel you to right your wrongs, but we can demand that you remove yourself from a place where you cause further harm pretending to represent anyone.
