Reject Rezoning Petition 2014-074 at Northeast corner of N. Community House & Bryant Farms Rd
The Issue
For years people living in the Ballantyne area have dealt with the ever increasing traffic on our neighborhood streets. Does it make sense to add high density housing to the already congested intersection of Bryant Farms and North Community House Road?
Terwilliger Pappas Multifamily Partners, LLC has filed petition # 2014-074 to rezone a portion of the parcel located at the intersection of Bryant Farms Road, and North Community House Road. This parcel is currently zoned as Neighborhood Business - Conditional. The proposal is to rezone a portion to Neighborhood Services. In the site plan submitted with the petition, the stated intent is to allow a Class A apartment complex of up to four stories and 240 units to be built on the site with 1.35 parking spaces per unit.
We do not feel that the rezoning is consistent with area plans, or reasonable and in the public interest for our community. The apartments would not have easy access to retail, or public transportation.
While development in our communities is inevitable, we are concerned about the increase in traffic, impact on our local schools, ability for emergency service providers to be able to access our community, and the overall design is not consistent (four stories, built to the road) with the current Ballantyne area.
To the best of our knowledge, within our area, this is the first proposal of a high density apartment complex, located on a minor throughfare. Approval of this petition could set a precident in our area. Be aware this may be a trend that would not be desirable for our community.
What can you do?
ATTEND the Ballantyne Breakfast Club meeting on Saturday, August 16 at 9am at the Ballantyne Resort, and the Public Hearing tentatively set for October 20th at 6pm, at the Charlotte-Mecklenburg Government Center.
WRITE to all 7 District reps as well as the Council at Large Representatives to express your opinion.
SPREAD THE WORD! Talk to your friends and neighbors, and anyone you know who travels on N. Community House Road - it will take the entire Ballantyne area to get this defeated! Pass this online petition on!
