Allow Occupy Atlanta to assemble peacefully in Woodruff Park

The Issue

The participants of Occupy Atlanta are peacefully assembling to protest growing economic inequalities and the hijacking of our democratic process by corporate interests.  They are gathering in a public forum to discuss their grievances and seek solutions.

When Martin Luther King, Jr. was accused of "disturbing the peace" by his activism during the Montgomery bus boycotts, he noted: "True peace is not merely the absence of tension: it is the presence of justice."  Mayor Reed, it our hope that you change course, choose to tolerate the "tension" that comes with hosting Occupy Atlanta, and embrace a fight for justice in our city, our state, our nation, and our world.

In this city - the cradle of the modern civil rights movement - please respect the first amendment and allow Occupy Atlanta to remain in Woodruff Park.  Do not waste taxpayer dollars and police overtime to monitor and suppress a peaceful protest!  Stand for the 99%.
