The PROBLEM

Australia's border closures were originally designed to keep COVID-19 cases out. But those closures are now making PRISONERS of ordinary Australian citizens who want to leave the country and get on with their lives elsewhere.

Caught out by the pandemic

Many Australians who took shelter here during the pandemic - or were simply stuck here - have lives and businesses to return to overseas. Some need to start new jobs, to study abroad or simply to be with loved ones. Most of these people DO NOT intend on returning before all restrictions are fully lifted.

So why make them *jump through hoops for a travel exemption?

The cost of Quarantine

Now the government have mandated that citizens returning must pay for their own quarantine the decision to leave should be for the individual to make, not the state.

Keeping people out of Australia may reduce the risk of importing COVID-19 cases. However, keeping people locked inside Australia is not reducing the risk of COVID-19 coming into Australia at all. It is an illogical rule and people should have the freedom to leave especially if they do not intend to returning in the short term

*Travel exemptions:
At the moment, the government forbids people leaving without going through a lengthy and arduous process of applying for travel exemptions. When exemptions are given, it is often the day before or the day of their intended departure date, causing unnecessary anxiety and mental anguish (See examples of real life cases here).
