Dear District 2 Neighbors,

    Over the past 5 years we have witnessed how quality of life in district 2 has worsened under the 'leadership' of council member Sergio Jimenez. At the same time homelessness has drastically increased along with crime, burglaries, robberies, graffiti and overall blight. Murders are now taking place right in the middle of once quiet, family-oriented residential areas. Local stores are closing and homeless shelters are opening everywhere. Illegal homeless encampments are thriving and expanding. Illegal trash dumps are proliferating. Sergio is not only soft on crime, but he keeps supporting controversial homeless housing projects in our district and pays little to no attention to what the community has to say about these projects. He has easily dismissed valid concerns by the community related to the unfair clustering of homeless housing in a small geographical area around Bernal Road by just saying that "we are still not doing enough". Yet the reality is that with two operational tiny home locations we are already doing more than most districts in San Jose and even more than whole cities like Los Gatos or Saratoga that do not have a single homeless shelter. As a result of the disproportionate amount homeless housing projects happening in district 2 during Sergio's tenure, a large part of our taxpayers money will not be used to improve our schools, roads, parks and public services but instead will go into supporting and funding the operation of these controversial homeless housing projects in our district. 

   As a local resident of many years, I know that there are thousands of other district 2 residents fed up and disappointed with Sergio's mediocre performance and with his terrible handling of the very real issues that neighborhoods in district 2 are facing. It is about time Sergio Jimenez gets recalled; he has proved time and again that he is not the leader that a majority of us need or want for district 2 so there is no reason to wait until his term expires in 2024.  Recalling Sergio Jimenez from office also seems necessary to stop the influx and unfair concentration of homeless housing projects in our district. He has recently mentioned that he supports a homekey project to purchase the Residence Inn and convert it into homeless housing and he also said during a community meeting that he was looking into using some of the large VTA parking lots in our district for even more homeless housing.

   The goal of this petition is to generate awareness among district 2 residents that it is possible to recall council member Sergio Jimenez especially if thousands of people show support for this petition. It is time to show Sergio Jimenez and the San Jose City Council that we indeed have a voice and that we also have voting power and that we can organize and remove an unpopular, ineffective elected official that pays no attention to his constituents. This petition is just a first step, a precursor to build awareness and momentum and most importantly to hear from the local residents in the comments section as to who is willing to help either by volunteering to gather signatures, by printing and distributing flyers, etc; The hope is that it will be easier to take the next step and start an official recall process once thousands have signed this petition.  A recall effort will require the whole community to get involved and participate, so let's get this started one signature at a time. Let's recall Sergio Jimenez and rescue our quality of life, our property values and the future of our district.
