Beckley’s Hole has been an eye sore for almost ten years and only until some concerned swimmers took it upon themselves did the city take notice. Now, the problem I see now that our hole has been filled is that a Cardinal statue has been chosen to be placed there. A Cardinal is our state bird but does that really represent our cities downtown?!?!

Bill Withers was born in Slab Fork, WV, in 1938.  Bill is the biggest musical icon or celebrity to come from West Virginia and is a legend to the entire world. I believe it to be a far greater idea that we celebrate Bill for being from Raleigh county by putting a monument of him right in the our cities heart!!!!
