The Monroe NC Tourism Development Authority (TDA) has determined that a hands-on science and learning-themed facility will not only be an asset for city and county residents, but it will also serve to attract residents from surrounding counties and provide additional family opportunities for individuals staying in Monroe.

  We the undersigned would like to propose to the city council that our new science center be appropriately called “The Christine Mann Darden Science Center” in honor of our Monroe native. Dr. Darden early findings in the 1960s and 1970s resulted in a revolution of aerodynamicsdesign to produce low-boom sonic effects. Dr. Darden was instrumental in paving the way for women, especially women of color, in the world of science, technology, engineering and mathematics and because of this she was awarded a Congressional Gold Medal.   Lets honor her as a community should.
