Save the Historic Boynton Beach High School from demolition

The Issue

On August 4, 2015, the Boynton Beach city Commissioners voted 3-2 to tear down the Historic Boynton Beach High School located in downtown Boynton Beach.

Despite the comments of the Vice Mayor, this building is not just "two-by-fours...nails...[and] concrete."  This building symbolizes so much more for the citizens of Boynton Beach and its surrounding communities.  To some, it's memories from their days in high school.  To others it's the artfully designed architecture that is unfortunately disappearing throughout our community.  To most, it symbolizes not just what Boynton Beach was in the past, but what it could be going forward.

We are not asking the city to save the building using its own money that we know it does not possess.  We are simply asking that the commissioners re-vote on this issue and vote to save the building.

We believe there is a clear movement to save the Historic High School and further believe there are local developers interested in taking on this challenge.  As such, we are also asking that the City form a group of Boynton Beach citizens to work with the City and assist in identifying developers who are interested in renovating the Historic High School to serve a more modern purpose.  A building built as well as the Historic High School can be the flagship landmark of Boynton Beach's downtown revitalization and be enjoyed for another 80+ years.

Please sign this petition and help us send a unified message to the leaders of Boynton Beach that the citizens demand the Historic High School be saved.  Thank you.
