We, the residents of Swanton Ohio and all of its townships, oppose the building of the proposed Norfolk Southern Staging Yard. 

This project will result in the building of 7 additional rail tracks, an increase in train frequency, the increase of downed gates at all crossings, the closure of Scott Road, and the storage of coal and other unnamed products in our town. 

The environmental and health consequences of this project could be staggering both to our residents, and our Metroparks. 

The safety of our students is directly effected, as it cuts off their secure passages through town. 

The closure of Scott Road leaves many residents facing delayed fire and rescue response. 

Hallett Avenue will become a busy highway, as it will be the only available through-way, further endangering the students and pedestrians forced to cross there. 

Property values and population will decline with the introduction of industrial pollution, noise and waste. 

Finally, this project offers no economic, tax or job benefits to Swanton, and will only serve to diminish the viability of our town. 

We sign this petition to urge Norfolk Southern to move this project from our town so that we may preserve the beauty and safety of our community.
