Sun conures are an endangered species with approximately 1,000- 2,499 individuals in the wild and the population is decreasing. The main reason for the decreasing population in the wild is because of the high demand of smuggling; illegal smuggling kills a large percent of the birds. Sun conures are one of the most popular pets and are known for their beauty. Sun conures are extremely social animals and have natural behaviors that they can only perform in the wild. For example, wild sun conures have free range to fly in groups with other conures. With the rate that the wild sun conures are being taken from the wild, it is likely that there will not be wild sun conures in our near future. So we need to be aware and with this petition reach out to associations like Animal Legal Defense Fund (ALDF) and Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species of Wild Fauna and Flora (CITES) and decrease the demand for sun conures so smugglers will more likely leave sun conures alone. Together we can make a difference.
