Circa 1880 Restaurant: Stop selling foie gras
A local restaurant sells foie gras as one of their main entree dishes.
Foie gras is made through a process of having a large metal pole being shoved down a helpless duck's neck. The ducks are often confined in cages and can't move. They are unable to fight back when they are being force fed, the sale of foie gras for human consumption violates the Poultry Products Inspection Act (PPIA) which states that they prohibit diseased, or "manipulated" meat from entering the food supply.
Foie gras is the diseased liver of ducks and geese that is the result of painful force-feeding. Tubes are forcefully shoved down the birds' throats and they are forced to consume more food than they would ever possibly consume naturally. The result: their livers become diseased and engorged, growing up to ten times their normal size.
Scientific studies have shown that people who consume foie gras are at a higher risk for a variety of physical ailments, including type 2 diabetes and Alzheimer's disease.
When the restaurant was contacted about this concern they admitted "we are aware of how foie gras is produced but the owner makes sure that the producers make it in the most humane way possible."
As we know shoving a metal pole down a ducks throat is not humane. Please help me in stopping this establishment from selling foie gras. If we can get this one restaurant to stop selling it, then its one small step to making foie gras illegal to sell in the city of Milwaukee, WI and hopefully lead to banning it the state of Wisconsin.

Dear Thomas Hauck,
I’m contacting you regarding the foie gras listed on your menu. California recently passed a law banning foie gras, and on behalf of the Milwaukee community, I am asking you to join the people of California and stop selling foie gras.
You may not be aware that the process of making foie gras inflicts terrible pain and suffering on ducks and geese. It involves force-feeding the birds until their livers become grotesquely enlarged, up to 10 times their normal size. Force-fed birds often suffer injuries to their bills, throats, and stomachs, such as bruising and lacerations, and they develop life-threatening diseases, including fatty liver disease (that’s what foie gras is–a disease), as well as gastrointestinal diseases and blockages, spleen and blood disorders, and respiratory illnesses.
I hope you’ll follow the lead of other local restaurants and remove foie gras from your menu. This would additionally be a wonderful time to consider broadening your offerings to include dishes that accommodate vegetarian and vegan diners. Local restaurants such as: Comet Cafe, Beans and Barley, The Green Kitchen and Stack'd offer a variety of plant-based meals that appeal to a wide variety of customers. Restaurants are realizing that it makes sense to offer vegetarian options on their menus, considering the growing number of people eating plant-based foods and the many people, both vegetarian and otherwise, who opt for meatless meals when they eat out.
If you agree to stop serving foie gras, I assure you that the humane community will join forces to publicly celebrate this important step, and to highlight the menu offerings that appeal to them.
