The Issue

AASW Credentialing processes for AASW members and future members needs to be reviewed.

The additional Credentialing domains appear redundant when the current Credentialing already intersects across the areas of FV/DV, clinical, disability, aged care and child protection.
There continues to be limited acknowledgement by the AASW regarding the social and economic burden of the Credentialing process on members who are already under significant pressure to provide services to disadvantaged clients with diminishing resources.
We would like an independent review of Credentialing and understand from the AASW what the purpose is of the imposition of further overlapping categories.

The one domain where we agree additional Credentialing is necessary is Supervision as that requires additional specialist skills and experience.

What we specifically request is:

1) Establishment of an independent review panel
2) Stakeholder feedback about the value of Credentialing of Social Workers
3) Corporate Social Responsibility review of this action and impacts both financial and socioeconomic barriers
4) Transparency on change management process at each phase of its role out
5) Notification and information process

 6) Roll out timeframes and metrics of success targets

7) Evidence of consultations and improving feedback mechanisms for changes in future.
