CIM Family Visiting Access

CIM Family Visiting Access
The Issue
As many of us may know, Family Visiting is so precious to both eligible visitors and their incarcerated loved ones. The Cdcr secretary acknowledged that family ties and connections are necessary...
Unfortunately and with great disappointment, California Institution For Men in Chino, has not been offering Family Visiting to all eligible incarcerated individuals. This has been an ongoing issue for far too long.
After years of advocacy, many incarcerated individuals with Life and Lwop sentences are eligible for family visits as long as they have avoided certain write ups and have been programming positively. The family visit units that are supposed to be accessible for level 2 inmates and those with long term sentences (Lifers, those serving Lwop) have been condemned with no plans to refurbish. For the barrier to a Family Visit to solely be because CIM has failed to address this issue and provide trailors, is unfair and unacceptable. Many of the Incarcerated individuals who are now eligible for a family visit have programmed and come from level 3 or 4 yards, yards that did offer Family Visiting. To have positively programmed and worked their way down to a level 2 only to find out that CIM does not have access to family visiting seems more like a punishment rather than a "reward" for good behavior. Many of us families finally have our loved one at an institution close enough to visit, only to learn that there is no Family Visiting available.
This issue has been brought up at multiple IAC meetings and Captains meetings at CIM with no follow through or resolution. A captain's meeting dated 1/23/2023 stated that the necessary paperwork has been submitted to Sacramento for the funding to restore the units. As well as a meeting with the fire Marshall. As of today there has not been a response.
As a community, we believe this cannot continue to go on unaddressed and unresolved. I, along with the other families with loved ones at CIM are asking for your support in calling for action, that CIM provide access to Family Visiting for all eligible incarcerated individuals and a timeline along with progress updates about when this issue will finally be resolved.
Please sign our petition and lets get CDCR and CIM to make Family Visiting available as it should be!
Thank you for your support ,we truly appreciate it!
