CIF: Stand Strong for Trans Youth

CIF: Stand Strong for Trans Youth
The Issue
We are calling on the California Interscholastic Federation, the body that oversees high school sports, to publicly end its discriminatory pilot policy that targets trans athletes and harms all youth in California. In June of 2025, bowing to pressure from a rogue federal administration, CIF made a single trans child the focus of a policy to sideline her achievements.
CIF must not continue politically-motivated policies that exclude the tiny minority of trans and gender-expansive youth from participating in sports, and require the unacceptable and intrusive policing of ALL children's bodies. Compliance means "proving" one's sex through physical checks, and legally-sanctioned bigotry means that anyone could accuse a youth of being "transgender" due to their size, strength, or skill, and expose our kids to terrible violations of their privacy and autonomy. In fact, when Edmonton, Canada recently required a gender confirmation form from families, participation by all girls plummeted so badly they canceled games.
Trans youth have been allowed to play on teams in line with their gender identity since 2014, and in a recent study, high school girls’ sports reached record participation levels by 2020. It's been a massive success for trans kids and girls' sports alike.
The parent of a youth trans athlete remarks: "If you could see my daughter playing volleyball, you would know how happy it makes her, and you wouldn’t dream of taking it away. She is not the fastest, strongest or best player on her team. But she is part of the team; and that means everything to her."
But out-of-town groups are now funding a few fanatics to push policies that bully transgender kids off of sports teams. We don't have to undo California's winning ways: CIF, let our kids continue to play!
