PLATAFORMA DE DENUNCIA Y PROTECCIÓN ANIMAL EN CANARIAS

En los últimos meses hemos sido testigos, a través de las redes sociales y los medios de comunicación, de varias denuncias sobre granjas en las que los animales han estado muriendo de hambre. 

Esta plataforma para la defensa del bienestar animal, con la colaboración de diferentes asociaciones protectoras de animales de las islas, está gestionando la denuncia contra una de esas explotaciones ganaderas en la isla de El Hierro, de la que fueron rescatados diez cerdos desnutridos y gravemente enfermos que estaban esperando morir lentamente, porque eso es lo que supone morir de hambre: una agonía lenta, cargada de desesperación, sufrimiento y dolor. A día de hoy, y al contrario de lo sucedido en la isla de La Gomera, donde el Juzgado de Primera Instancia e instrucción N° 1 de San Sebastián de La Gomera, ordenó su clausura, este lugar todavía alberga animales, y ha continuado con su actividad a pesar de tener varios informes negativos del Seprona, fruto de diferentes denuncias recibidas. Dudamos mucho que las condiciones de esta granja hayan variado.

Si bien denunciamos que los propietarios de estas explotaciones ganaderas son los responsables directos del maltrato infringido a esos animales, también consideramos que hay muchos responsables indirectos en estos casos, ya que nos encontramos con una regulación que, lejos de velar por su bienestar, los cosifica y determina su sacrificio como su destino primero y último, bien para su consumo, bien para su desecho.

Hay muchos debates que proponer y para integrar a las agendas políticas: la adecuación del consumo de carne, el debate ecológico, etc. Pero vamos a incidir en cómo se trata a día de hoy a los animales "de consumo" y cómo este hecho invisibiliza la necesidad de defender su bienestar y la lucha contra su maltrato. Nadie debe ser ajeno a las condiciones en las que viven y son explotados estos animales, nacidos y criados para su consumo. Mueren para dar de comer a millones de personas, razón por la que el ser humano debería tener mayor conciencia, respeto y empatía.

¿Han pensado alguna vez cuánto tiempo ha de pasar para que un animal muera de hambre?

¿Cuánto sufrimiento se inflinge a un ser vivo al que se somete a esta muerte dolorosa y cruel?

¿Realmente somos ese tipo de sociedad insensible, que desea seguir mirando a otro lado para no tener que enfrentarse a la realidad?

Tenemos la certeza de que no es así, sabemos que a la gran mayoría le importa y comparte con nosotras que debemos actuar para evitar que esto siga sucediendo. No es una mera cuestión de consumo, es también una cuestión de ética y sensibilidad; de salud y de principios. 

Las Administraciones Públicas deben ejercer sus funciones, no sólo de cara a la vigilancia de estas explotaciones ganaderas, sino también velando por el cumplimiento de las condiciones mínimas de salubridad, higiene y alimentación de los animales, sin olvidar el trato digno que merecen y su bienestar. Actuando de forma más contundente contra los delitos de maltrato animal que se producen en este o cualquier otro ámbito. 

No puede seguir consintiéndose que delitos como este queden impunes y que la única respuesta de las administraciones, sea acabar con la vida de los animales, su sacrificio, mientras los maltratadores continúan ejerciendo una actividad para la que deberían ser inhabilitados.

La semana pasada conocíamos la clausura de una de estas granjas en La Gomera, como solución a un problema de salud pública donde ya nos avanzaba la propia noticia que, esos 60 animales sería sacrificados, por razones de humanidad, decía, pero esa es sencillamente una excusa más, una solución rápida y poco compleja que implica mucho menos trabajo que educar, controlar, fiscalizar y regular mejor, para evitar que los animales sean los que sufran siempre las consecuencias de la irresponsabilidad del ser humano.

Estos casos de maltrato son escondidos o enmascarados para evitar su cuestionamiento social y el debate de la ética en el consumo de la carne: un mercado en el que se desechan toneladas de “productos" al año, que suponen el sacrificio injusto e inútil, de millones de animales. 

Estas circunstancias , además, suponen presuntos delitos contra la salud pública, por la cantidad de irregularidades que esconden: cría y venta ilegal, falta de identificación de los animales criados, no censados, duplicidad y venta ilegal a terceros para destinar su carne al consumo humano, provocándoles la muerte sin asistencia veterinaria, lo que implica métodos que infringen sufrimiento, no son indoloros y son una forma más de maltrato, añadido al ya recibido; falta de control sanitario, instalaciones poco adecuadas y que no reúnen las condiciones mínimas de salubridad e higiene que se le presuponen a este tipo de instalaciones ganaderas, con las consecuencias que conllevan para la salud pública. 

Desde esta plataforma, exigimos a las Administraciones Públicas una mayor vigilancia que garantice una intervención rápida y adecuada ante la denuncia o conocimiento de que esto puede estar sucediendo en cualquier otra explotación ganadera. 

Que no vuelva a pasar por alto su obligación de poner en conocimiento de la justicia la comisión de cualquier tipo de delito. 

No podemos dejar de recordarles que abandonar animales en granjas y permitir que mueran de hambre, también es maltrato, que no deja de ser un delito, aunque los animales que estén siendo maltratados sean de especies destinadas al consumo o cualquier otra actividad a la que el ser humano los destine.
