Chrystia Freeland had the unique opportunity to make a history changing decision on December 16 to the benefit of Canada, and she took it. She “read the room” correctly, understood that the rest of Canada was tired of Trudeau’s “political gimmickry” as she called it, and decided to be a brave Leader, not a mere follower.

Now it’s up to each of us to talk to friends and family, editorialists, influencers, and Liberal MPs, from Cabinet level on down, to convince them to sign this petition and that Justin has only one choice. Not a murky opinion poll but a document with names that says, “It’s time for a change.”

Trudeau simply resigning the Liberal leadership is not enough. The impending negotiation with the US requires a Canadian leader to whom voters have given a mandate. Except for the Liberals, all other Parties have Leaders. This will require the Liberals to pick a leader, however they want to do it, whether they anoint one of their own from within, or they bring in an outsider like Carney, or someone else. They no longer have the luxury or the time, nor do we, for a long, drawn-out process to choose a Leader. Trudeau stole that from his Party by his refusal to leave when there was time.

The country cannot move on without a Government that has the confidence of its people, and a clear mandate to immediately take on the very tough negotiations we’re going to face with Donald Trump. We don’t need bombast and idle threats as we enter the negotiations, we need thoughtful Canadian skill in assessing what the other guys really wants and then figuring out how we can satisfy his needs, and he can satisfy ours.

The media tells us that Trudeau has made no decision yet regarding his future but will consider the options over the holidays. By January 3 he should have had ample time to do this so let’s by that day deliver him a petition with an overwhelming number of signatures, including those of Liberal MP’s who have yet to publicly state their position, and convince him to call an immediate general election.

An election called on January 3, 2025 can be completed by Monday, February 10, 2025 which is the shortest allowable time under Canadian law. Undoubtedly Trump would wait until that was complete.

Trudeau’s bullying persona finally led him astray. Instead of Freeland making the fall economic statement on the 16th and then being removed as Finance Minister to make way for Mark Carney, he caused Freeland to reach deep, find strength from her Ukrainian roots, and not be “the fall guy” for telling Canadians that we are $20 Billion+ beyond the fiscal guardrail she had set of $40 Billion. In one fell swoop she derailed Trudeau’s egregious agenda and has given us all the catalyst to force a general election as soon as possible.

We now have the opportunity, and the time to make it work simply through putting our names to this petition, to energize the rest of the Liberal caucus, regardless of whether Cabinet Minister or backbencher, to also follow through on their oath(s) which they took as MPs, and which Freeland decided to answer instead of providing fealty to a misguided Leader.

Nowhere in any of these oaths does it mention fealty to a Prime Minister, Party Leader, or Political Party. No. Everyone who takes these oaths is expected to do their utmost, in the best interests of The Crown, In Right of Canada, in other words you and me.

But what we have before us today, are too Liberal many MPs, regardless of their position in the Government, who have failed to remember their oaths to serve the best interests of Canada and Canadians.
