On May 16th Canada's High Commissioner to Guyana expressed concern over the caretaker government's refusal to allow Carter Centre election observers to return to Guyana to observe the recount of March 2nd election results. The attached opinion piece documents allegations by multiple international organizations, western diplomats and the CARICOM and OAS observer teams of credible evidence of electoral fraud and questions about a controversial and much delayed recount process. The West has regularly turned a blind eye to rigged elections in Guyana in the past and international pressure now is needed to ensure that this is not repeated.
