STUDENTS, VOLUNTEER PROGRAMMERS, AND THE GENERAL PUBLIC Petition AGAINST  CHRY Radio Inc. MANAGEMENT DECISION OF APRIL 30TH, 2015

DEMANDS:

1. Immediately set aside the April 30, 2015 dismissal of programmers.
2. Reinstate all shows and volunteer programmers as of April 29th 2015.
3. Call a Special General Members Meeting (SGMM) within the required mandate to address the concerns and to democratically elect Board members that will represent the will of the community and student members.
Why is this Important?

The undemocratic dismissal of long standing and well respected community and student volunteer programmers by the management of CHRY Radio Inc. on April 30th 2015 was highly immoral and has major implications for student organizations on campus, the general student body at York, and the North York/Toronto community and the rest of the general public within the Greater Toronto Area (GTA).The unilateral and unwarranted decision to dismiss all the volunteers without due process and the lack of transparency in appointing programmers going forward, fails in consensus decision-making and decreases collective investment in the station putting the political and cultural consciousness of the station at risk.

The purported reasons for the launching was misguided and disrespectful to long standing dedicated programmers, most of whom have over ten to twenty five years (10 -25) of uninterrupted community service through CHRY 105.5 F.M. which served a very diverse general public who are very angry.

The motives behind VIBE 1055, CHRY has undermined the basic respect for due process, defaulted in providing any meaningful so-called professional training for programmers and has used that as a pretext to dismiss them. The unwarranted and punitive action stray away from CHRY INC. and its mission statement that holds social justice as one of its core political values.

The socially and  politically diverse voices and forms of free and artistic expression that flourished will be marginalized under the unclear and misguided new direction of VIBE 105.5, going against the core values of community radio as a whole. Moreover, the plethora of political organizations and clubs at York will lose a major channel of outreach towards the student body and the broader community. The social and political connection of York University to the community has a very long and good standing reputation through collaborative partnerships like CHRY 105.5 F.M.

In response to the erroneous actions by the management of CHRY Radio Inc., York students have partnered with majority of the dismissed volunteers and the general public to demand that the unwarranted actions taken on April 30th, 2015, be set aside and to reinstate all the shows and the volunteer programmers as was beforehand.
