Christy Clark, Todd Stone, Vancouver Park Board: Make the Stanley Park Causeway safer for pedestrians & cyclists
On May 25, 2013 a North Vancouver woman died on her way to work by bike. She made contact with a pedestrian on the narrow sidewalk along the Stanley Park Causeway and fell on the roadway in front of a bus. This unfortunate tragedy could have been prevented by a barrier or fence between the sidewalk and the roadway, and by providing adequately wide or separated bike and walking paths along the Causeway.
A large and growing number of Vancouver and North Shore residents ride to and from Lions Gate Bridge through Stanley Park. The existing cycling facilities and the 2012 Stanley Park Cycling Plan do little to provide safe and convenient connections between downtown Vancouver and Lions Gate Bridge.
Please sign this petition if you would like to see improvements in Stanley Park that would reduce the chances of another senseless injury or death along the causeway. HUB: Your Cycling Connection has been asking for better cycling infrastructure in Stanley Park, but the Premier, the Minister of Transportation and Infrastructure, and the Vancouver Park Board also need to hear from people who bike and from the families and friends who want to keep them safe.

RE: Stanley Park Causeway - Cycling & Pedestrian Safety Improvements
The unfortunate death of a North Vancouver resident on the Stanley Park causeway on May 25th, 2013 comes as no surprise to those who regularly bike or walk between downtown Vancouver and the Lions Gate Bridge. This unfortunate tragedy could have been prevented by having a barrier or fence between the sidewalk and the roadway, and by providing wider or separated bike and walking paths along the Causeway.
I urge you to put short-term and long-term safety improvements in place immediately to prevent future tragedies like this.
