The response Monday of the Agricultural Land Commission to a Freedom of Information application made by the Farmland Defence League of BC reveals that the Commission does not know how much land has been lost to non-farm use. Accompanying documents also indicate that there is no difference between an exclusion application and a non-farm use application, except that the land under non-farm use application remains in the ALR.
"This confirms what the Farmland Defence League has feared for years," says Donna Passmore, Campaign Director of the Farmland Defence League. "The taxpayers and voters of this province believe that the ALR is comprised of land available for food production, and that is just not the case, and the Agricultural Land Reserve is no longer a reserve, but an oasis of food security."
