Bring Mike Barrett back to Blazers broadcasting! #BringBackMB
The Issue
Oregon's own Mike Barrett was the iconic play-by-play voice of the Trail Blazers for 17 years before his sudden firing in 2016. Most of the Blazers faithful felt extremely betrayed by this move. However, the recent departure of Barrett's replacement creates an opportunity for the franchise to reunite with it's longest tenured TV voice. Will Blazers Management listen to the will of Rip City or continue to ignore us?
Many felt the firing happened because Barrett was "too regional", yet he gained a great deal of national recognition as a regular contributor to NBA TV & NBA.com. According to NBC Sports, National television broadcasters and NBA teams around the league called Barrett on the day of his firing to see if he was interested in re-locating. Barrett was quoted as saying, “That was my team, I can’t do another team.” Barrett has since become Managing Director of The Portland Diamond Project, the movement to bring MLB baseball to Portland. His loyalty to our area is unquestionable.
To Mr. McGowen: Rip City insists that you DO NOT again ignore the will of the fans. Barrett's deep roots in the Pacific NW is an asset not a liability. He will have excellent chemistry with Blazers TV commentator, Lamar Hurd. Your previous experiment did not work. It is time to make things right. #BringBackMB
