Chowchilla Deserves Better: Protect Our Families From the Harm of Family Separation
We are furious. We are exhausted. And we refuse to treat family separation as normal.

In Chowchilla, this is not just a political issue or a debate happening somewhere else. These are real families, real parents, and real children who deserve to live without the constant fear of being separated from the people they love.

When immigration enforcement tears families apart, the harm does not end when someone is detained. Children are left frightened and confused. Parents live with uncertainty. Schools, workplaces, and neighborhoods feel the impact. The trauma can follow families long after the immediate crisis is over.

No family should have to live in fear of being torn apart without access to information, legal support, or a fair opportunity to protect their loved ones.

That is why I am calling on Madera County leaders and the Chowchilla City Council to take meaningful, concrete action to protect our community.

We are asking local leaders to:

Protect local resources: Establish clear policies governing the use of local personnel, facilities, and resources in federal immigration enforcement, consistent with California law.
Demand transparency: Make information about local cooperation with federal immigration authorities publicly accessible to the extent permitted by law.
Connect families with help: Expand access to trusted immigration legal services, know-your-rights information, and emergency resources for families affected by detention.
Stand up for our children: Support policies and community partnerships that help children and families navigate the fear, disruption, and uncertainty caused by family separation.
I am speaking out because our community deserves to be heard. The attention this issue has received shows that people are concerned, that families matter, and that silence is not the answer.

This is about more than politics. It is about humanity, dignity, and the belief that families deserve support when they are most vulnerable.
