Install infant changing tables in the restrooms
Install infant changing tables in the restrooms
The Issue
Any restaurant with a kids menu and high chairs needs to update their facilities to be accessible to people of all ages. No booths and no changing tables means that the only horizontal surface for changing a baby is on a dining table. This is neither safe nor sanitary. Yeah, maybe it would ruin the solid stainless steel surface of their restroom walls, but ultimately good design is guided by function, not aesthetics.
Traveling from Connecticut to Indiana, Chicago and back in the car, we ate at 10 different Chipotle Restaurants in NJ, PA, MD, OH, IN and IL. I have a 4 month old baby and I love being able to feed myself (and my breastfeeding baby) with as few processed food additives as possible. Chipotle's steak burritos kept my husband fueled as he drove us 10 hours a day for a total of 4 days. Only one BIG problem. BIG! No changing tables for the baby. Is Chipotle Mexican Grill actively trying to discourage infants? More than once I almost changed a diaper in the middle of the dining room. But I didn't.
At every restaurant, we asked to speak with the manager and registered our feedback, but they said that the decision about having Koala Kare or another folding changing table was not up to them.
I'm not sure I can take my baby to Chipotle anymore, because of this design choice. She's almost too big and squirmy to change in the car just because her mommy wants a burrito bowl. I can eat at any of the competitors who welcome babies.
In my internet research of this issue, I learn that my complaint is far from original. Every response from Chipotle Corporation includes an acknowledgement that the lack of changing tables is corporate and that they will take the complaint "into consideration for the future".
THE FUTURE IS NOW! DON'T LET ANOTHER BABY SUFFER THROUGH A MEAL AT CHIPOTLE!
