We have learnt that Zhang Zhan has not ended her food refusal. Contrary to what we believed in February 2022, she has remained on a partial hunger strike, which she started in late December 2020, following her sentencing hearing in late December 2020.
Every day, she only takes one meal. Although no details are currently available, it is believed that Zhang Zhan's conditions are serious and she is still very weak.
In February 2020, Zhang Zhan traveled to Wuhan, the epicenter to report on the Coronavirus outbreak. In May 2020, she was taken from her hotel room by Shanghai police. She went on a hunger strike for more than six months to protest her arbitrary detention and was forcibly fed via a tube.
The news that the formal lawyer was convicted and jailed for four years for "picking quarrels and provoking trouble" was widely reported. Later, she was transferred to Shanghai Women's Prison.
In late October 2021, her brother revealed that she was gravely ill and "close to death", following months of partial hunger strike.
In late February 2022, Shanghai was placed under strict lockdown, which lasted two months. There has been little information since about Zhang Zhan's situation. The Chinese authorities frequently use the pandemic as an excuse to deprive family members of their rights to visit prisoners of conscience.

#张展近况 张展仍未结束绝食，健康堪忧
从2022年2月底武汉肺炎在上海肆虐以来，狱中张展音信全无，甚至在上海封城结束后，仍很久没有她的消息。近日，张展关注组知悉，与我们在2月中旬了解到的情况不同，张展其实一直未恢复正常进食，她处于无限期的有限量绝食/禁食状态。她每天只吃一餐，身体极为虚弱。
几个月前，张展家人曾说她命悬一线。目前，张展的健康情况仍然令人忧虑。
张展因报道武汉疫情真相被判刑四年，余刑还有一年九个月。
