Today is the 2nd anniversary of Zhang Zhan's arrest from Wuhan, ground zero of the COVID19 pandemic. She is still held in the Women's Prison in Shanghai, which has now been under strict lockdown for weeks.

We shared the good news about Zhang Zhan's improved treatment and health in February – it was understood that she had ended her hunger strike by then. However, her family has not heard from her for more than three months. Since the end of January, they haven't been allowed to speak to her over the phone. Her lawyer’s request for a visit had been turned down long before the Shanghai lockdown. The prison authorities have not provided information on her diet, weight, or any medical treatment provided. In addition, in a Covid lockdown, prisoners are usually among the most affected groups.

The wider context is that in China, 2022 is a sensitive year due to the 20th party congress. The Chinese authorities have been stepping up their clampdown on rights activists and political dissidents. Their paranoia typically leads to tighter control on information about political prisoners such as Zhang Zhan.

The UN, the EU, several states, many NGOs and supports from all over the world have called for her urgent release since she became critically ill following more than a year of full and partial hunger strikes. Nevertheless, Zhang Zhan remains jailed. We are extremely concerned that Zhang Zhan's being held incommunicado. We do not know whether sufficient medical care is available at her prison during the lockdown and provided to her, whether she is eating normally, how she is keeping, or whether she is allowed to get outside for sunlight and fresh air.

This 4-year sentence is like a battle for her. During the first half, she gave her all, and nearly died for what she believes is more important than life; we thank God and thank you that she has survived two bitter winters. Now the second half has started. Can we count on your continuous support for Zhang Zhan?

今天是张展因报道武汉疫情，被上海警方从武汉跨境抓捕两周年的日子。张展在上海女子监狱服刑，而上海处于持续封锁中。

我们曾在今年2月与大家分享关于张展狱中处境及健康状况有所改善的好消息，当时的理解是她已结束绝食。然而，家人已三个多月没有张展的消息。自一月底以来，他们连与她通电话的机会都没有。张展的律师曾要求探监，但一直不被允许。监狱当局没有提供任何关于她饮食、体重、医疗的情况。况且，疫情封控下，服刑人员通常受影响比一般人更为严重。

中共20大令2022年在中国当局眼中全年都是敏感日，对维权人士、异见人士的打压加重。在这种疯狂氛围下，像张展这样的政治犯的信息会遭到更严格的控制。

因张展被捕后，完全、部分绝食一年多，被强制灌食，病情危重，联合国、欧盟、多个国家、许多非政府组织及来自全世界关注张展的朋友呼吁紧急释放她。然而，张展迄今仍被关押。

张展目前与外界隔绝的状态，非常令人担忧。我们不知上海女子监狱在封城期间是否有足够的医疗医药，能提供给张展；她的饮食是否恢复正常，健康状况如何；她能否到外面晒太阳、呼吸新鲜空气。

若四年刑期是一场硬仗，上半场张展拼尽全力、抗争惨烈、差点没牺牲——感谢上帝，感谢所有人的关注支持，她挺过了两个寒冬；现在下半场已开始，让我们继续为张展加油！
