Zhang Zhan was finally allowed to have a video call with her mother on 3 February 2021, a week before Chinese New Year. Her mother was given a policeman's phone to make the call, which was frequently interrupted by incoming calls and messages and lasted about 20 minutes in total.
This was the first time Zhan had been able to speak to her mum, albeit from inside the detention centre via a Wechat video call. Tears rolled down her face as Zhan talked about the injustice behind her 4-year imprisonment. She told her mother, “I didn't lie.”
She was still very thin, fragile-looking. Her skin, which had been smooth, supple in her normal self, had become dry and scaly. To her mother, Zhan looked about the same as she did after having been on a hunger strike for six months on 28th December 2020, when her mum got a glimpse of her while she was being wheeled into the courtroom.
After the sentencing trial, Zhan ended her full hunger strike but has remained on a partial hunger strike. On 13 January 2021, Mr Zhang visited her for the last time, during which she mentioned that staff at the detention centre had threatened to forcibly feed her again and use an even thicker nasal tube this time. An unbearable thought! The reason for her ending her full hunger strike was because “forced feeding is too painful”. How much does she have to eat to satisfy her jailers, who then will put away that dreadful feeding tube?
During the video call, her mother tried to persuade her to start eating normally. To this, Zhan said, "I am sorry..." The call was abruptly ended by the owner of the phone before Zhan and her mother said their goodbyes.
According to the two lawyers, who were able to visit her a few times at Pudong Detention Centre prior to her trial, Zhan had consistently expressed her position: She would not obey the authorities or plead guilty; she would continue her (partial) hunger strike“until the end”. Friends assume that she would switch to "survival mode" once she has been sentenced. Surely, the season for "fighting mode" has come to an end now that she has given up the right to appeal and started serving her jail term. Zhang Zhan seems to hold a different view, or rather she refuses to change her view. She thinks an appeal would be like "going around in an enclosed circle". She wants to carry on with her disobedience and non-cooperation using the means of a continuous partial hunger strike while she is unjustly imprisoned.
To crush the will of a prisoner of conscience, China's prisons have a comprehensive system of physical and psychological torture. We have heard enough horror stories and seen enough deaths and life-changing injuries. We can't imagine what Zhan will face in the remaining three years and two months.
To the usual “保重身体” (take care of yourself), Zhan's response was “保重身体不如过敬虔的生活” (Taking care is not as important as living a godly life), reflecting her Christian faith.
When a friend told her to leave Wuhan as Chen Qiushi, Fang Bin and Li Zehua had 'disappeared' one after another, she said to him, “I know in my heart that, for this country to have peace and freedom, dedication, selfless sacrifices and physical suffering are necessary. I cannot do it, but I am going to try my best.”
Zhan had started a 21-day quarantine at Pudong Detention Centre by 2 February, which means that she should have been transferred to prison later in February. Her mother is still trying to find out where she is being held because the staff at the detention centre refused to tell her.
So, once again, we have reasons to be very concerned about Zhang Zhan's health and wellbeing. She is at grave risk of further torture. She is only 37. May 14th, 2021, will mark 1 year after her arrest.
A group of people of faith from different countries have started a "Pray4ZhangZhan" campaign since 4 January 2021. Some fast a meal or two per week and use the time to pray for Zhang Zhan. Some extends the scope and pray for all prisoners of conscience in China. Common hashtags include #Pray4ZhangZhan #FreeZhangZhan #FreeChina #WalktheBitterRoadwithZhangZhan (#陪张展姊妹行苦路).

张展一直持续绝食、现关押监狱不知、家属无法探视。张展不仅健康堪忧，且再次遭受强制灌食等酷刑的可能性极大⚠
2月3日，腊月二十二，张展母亲用警察手机首次与看守所中的张展视频见面，连线二十几分钟，数次中断。张展坚持半绝食，身体状况堪忧。面对劝她恢复正常吃饭的母亲，她含泪说：“对不起。” 张展当天已在看守所被隔离，21天隔离期应早已结束，张展已被转到监狱服刑。近期家属询问张展被转送到哪里，看守所拒绝告知。1月13日张展最后一次见律师时也表明坚持半绝食，况绝食日久后进食会胃痛；看守所威胁用更粗的胃管对她进行强制鼻饲！

《张展的泪与血》

2021年2月3日，腊月二十二，已被判刑四年的张展终于得以与母亲短暂视频通话。说到自己无辜被囚，她泪水满面。她说：“我没有撒谎。”
张展看上去仍然极其消瘦、虚弱，与庭审那天一样。那天轮椅推过来的时候，母亲瞥见了女儿的面容。尤其令她心痛的是，张展往日水灵的皮肤显得枯干起皱。长期绝食、被强制灌食及戴脚镣、24小时绑约束给身心带来的折磨，何其残忍。而张展竟然仍决意持续半绝食！
面对生养她的母亲心疼的眼光和劝告的话语，泪眼朦胧的张展报以一句“对不起”...... 没有机会做什么交代，也没有时间告别，用来视频通话的手机被警察收走了。这个春节，高墙内外，张展和她的家人是怎样的滋味？
不知张展已被转到了哪座监狱，朋友们给她写的信什么时候能寄出？

张展已然经历炼狱！自2020.5.14被抓后，她断续绝食，到6月底，开始不间断绝食绝水。7月初开始被强制灌食，9月初她因绝食输液的消息传到外界（不久张展关注组成立）。10月底闻律师介入，才知张展绝食是因抗拒被逼认罪，表达不妥协与坚决抗议的态度，且已绝食五个月了！11月爆出检方建议对张展判刑五年及部分罪状，不久起诉书曝光，张展案始得到广泛关注；11月底张律会见到张展，自此才知张展绝食及被强制灌食、受报复苦害情形，才知她近一米八的身量，身型脸型都瘦小很多；后12月任律会见，更呼张展已完全“脱像”了！她自己曾面对律师泪流不止，说“每天都是煎熬”，说不知能不能撑到开庭。
张展当庭被判刑四年，中国的2020大疫之年结束的方式令人心更寒，世间更暗。既已被判刑，人们都期待这关中女汉子终止绝食，从“抗争模式”转为“存活模式”。张展啊，你受的罪已够多了，被摧残的身体该开始休养，以图逐渐康复。留得青山在。
孰料张展拒不服从、坚不认罪、以血肉之躯面对钢铁强权，以同样的态度面对公检法全套系统，甚至包括服刑的监狱！可是，这个没有人性的钢铁机器已经残害了多少优秀中华儿女，个个都是意志坚定不惧牢狱的勇士。他们所激励的人的精神尊严，与他们的早逝给这个民族带来的伤痛损失，又如何相比？在那个长长的名单上，还要多一个张展吗？
张展说她在浦东看守所里常常趴着栏杆演讲，“用最大的声音”传递态度。到了监狱，她会遇到什么样的牢头狱霸？面对立志践行心口行合一、仿佛天外来人一般的这样一个张展，丧失人性的人会如何难为她？羞辱她？报复她？为迫使她进食而折磨她？
1月13日张律最后一次见张展时，已知她仍在半绝食，作为无辜之人她不愿意照常饮食，那样会表示自己承认罪犯身份；因绝食已久，吃一点东西胃就会痛；浦东看守所人员威胁她要再次对她强制插管灌食，而且要用更粗的管子！
张展之所以终止完全绝食，转为半绝食，原本就是为了避免“实在太痛苦”的插管灌食。她需要吃下多少才令那些人满意，才能避免那些人的手按到身上、那粗大的鼻饲管强插到鼻腔、那喷溅的血、那屈辱、那疼痛、那约束带24小时绑身、那一分钟如一万年的难熬？

多少人劝张展停止绝食啊。对此，张展的答复是：“保养自己身体，不如过敬虔的生活。”
从2月到5月中，从封城到解封后，张展在武汉逗留了三个多月。住的旅馆里有四个人是监视她的；面对跟踪、警告、朋友被警方要求给她带信要她离开，总有些牵挂让她不舍得走。被抓前她在最后的油管视频中说：“这些人、这些事总可以推动我，从一个很绝望的恐惧中，往前再进一步，或者说是，去关注他们，为他们再说一点话。”
她明白地对友人表明自己要走什么样的道路：“我心里知道这个国家需要献身、需要牺牲、需要血和肉的代价换来和平和自由，但是我做不到，但是我要尽力朝这个方向去做。” https://youtu.be/LDkjikpfQ6A
张展，除了你的亲人，这个世界上还有无数人切盼着你活下来。你内心的苦难有多深重呢，你把这国的深重苦难挂在了心头，以致相对而言身体的苦炼已不足为意。在你看来，绝食抗议/禁食祷告带来的力量竟能超越长期饥饿/强迫灌食等酷刑带来的痛苦么？这，何其不可思议啊。
张展，愿不可思议的事在你身上能够成就，愿虔诚的你得到上帝眷顾，愿你为这国这民日夜不停的祈祷得到应允，愿你所期望的大光明早日到来！
