STOP PLASTIC TOY FREEBIES WITH CHILDRENS MAGAZINES

STOP PLASTIC TOY FREEBIES WITH CHILDRENS MAGAZINES
The Issue
European parliament has declared a climate emergency. 11,000 scientists in 153 countries have declared a climate emergency and warned that “untold human suffering” is unavoidable without huge shifts in the way we live. We need to make changes to what has become our normal way of living. Plastic pollution is a major contributor to the degradation of ecosystems, to a reduction in human health, and to climate change.
Plastic-toy giveaways should no longer be included with children's magazines. After a recent campaign, global fast food chains have stopped including plastic toy giveaways with their kids meals. So why are magazines still able to give away thousands of pieces of plastic toys, which more often than not end up in the bin within days if not hours?
Kids' magazines are bright, colourful, educational and fun - however many come with plastic toys, extremely appealing to young children. We all know this is a marketing ploy, but these toys are usually discarded fairly quickly and end up in landfill along with many other pieces of single use plastic and cheap, throwaway plastic.
Magazine content should be enough, with games, puzzles and colouring sections, they don’t need cheap throwaway plastic, it’s completely the wrong message to send out to young children about their world and how to look after their environment.
Please help parents like us and our children by putting forward a positive message and banning plastic giveaways with magazines.
