"Chopra is the icon of pseudoscience. He's like the great de-educator. He legitimizes these ideas that have no scientific basis at all and makes them sound scientific. He really is a fountain of meaningless jargon." - Timothy Caulfield, Health Law/Science Policy, U of A.
Deepak Chopra, a public speaker and alternative medicine advocate, will be the keynote speaker for the Children’s Autism Annual Conference in Edmonton. Chopra believes that human ageing and illness can be reversed by the power of the human mind, and argues that his practices of "quantum healing" can cure any number of ailments, including cancer.
His most destructive views could be those that holds regarding Autism, which he believes can be treated by "helping a client to return to wholeness (to) assist the overall functioning of the body through its own soul." His likeness, name and books are plastered over sites that promise that Autism can be cured. Allowing this star power to be used to promote treatments that have no basis in science sells false hope to the families of ASD affected children, and he is doing so without a shred of scientific evidence to support his "theories".
This man should not be allowed to damage one child with his rhetoric. Let's do our part to see that he doesn't. Please sign and share this petition.
For science, and sanity.
