Children of the Canadian Residential School System Memorial

The Issue

If you visit Germany today you will find in Munich, Berlin, Nuremberg etc. memorials and educational museums that acknowledges the Holocaust and it’s victims. In Berlin there is a Memorial and Information Centre where the victims’ names are read aloud.

With the discovery of the 215 children’s remains at the site of the Kamloops Residential School and further discoveries of unmarked graves at Cowessess, Saskatchewan and Cranbrook BC,  it is clear that more needs to be done to acknowledge and pay respect to the children that were ripped from their homes and sent to Residential Schools where they were brutally treated, starved, sexually and physically assaulted leaving many broken or dead and affecting generations to follow.

I am urging you to pressure the Canadian Government to build a Memorial on which, if possible,  every name of every child taken from their homes and sent to Residential School be recorded. Perhaps then the people of Canada will be able to see that list, acknowledge the atrocities and healing can begin for all communities.  A Memorial can also serve as a place where families of the children can go and feel that finally their loved ones have been seen.

This has already been a TRC Call to Action since 2015 and hopefully your signature will help to push this government to act on it.

Please sign and share.

FYI: The painting displayed is by Canadian Cree artist Kent Monkman. It may seem disturbing to some but that was his point. To depict the truth.
