This petition has taken me to many places and made me realise a lot about how important history is to the modern day. When I discovered this news in the 'i' newspaper all those months ago, I felt the rage but also the urge to speak up for something I felt needed a voice. I still feel that today, which is why I am leaving this petition open.
I've always wanted to be a history teacher and to give a brief update on my life, I passed my GCSE's, accepted the University of Lincoln's Unconditional offer to study History in 2020 and have researched more history a great deal. The one thing that has stuck through with me on this journey is the importance of education. Whether it is 1 person or 1000. With this petition I have reached out to just over 46 000 of you which is truly incredible, I cannot thank you enough. Whether you only read the title or the full article, then decided to sign - thank you, it's a small moment of your time but when everyone comes together it can work wonders. Leaving this petition open will mean that people can still interact and be educated on a topic like this which I feel is important and just as relevant.
On this note, I encourage you all to do one thing: make yourself aware. Organisations like Autism Speaks and PETA are damaging to the progression of how Autism is handled, viewed and educated now in society. One charity that I truly support is the National Autistic Society, they are one of the great ones that your donations should go to. I will always update this petition, it is something I'll always care for. When I take part in the 2 minute silence of remembrance, I take a moment to remember those children and adults, not so different to me, that were euthanized all those years ago. For as long as I will breathe, I will give them their rightful voice and I will speak out about autism - all with the intention to educate.
Kind regards,
Belle Westley
