Bill A9529/S8426 - This bill proposes changes to the social services law, specifically with regards to staff/child ratios in various types of childcare settings like family day care homes, group family day care homes, school age day care programs and day care centers. The bill looks to remove certain regulations that the office of children and family services uses to determine what an appropriate staff/child ratio is in these different settings. While the bill still maintains the necessity of age-appropriate activities, principles of childhood development, supervision levels, sanitation standards, health, safety, and staff qualification requirements, it removes the clause that requires these ratios to be no less stringent than those set forth in specified sections of the New York code of rules.
Bill A7945/S7743 - An act to amend the social services law, in relation to defining critical violations by child care providers; establishing a portal for child care providers to self-report critical violations; clarifying certain sanctions, penalties, and other disciplinary actions taken by the office of children and family services against child care providers for critical violations; and specifying procedures for child care providers to appeal such sanctions, penalties, and disciplinary actions, and requiring written observation descriptions of cited violations.
