Hello,
Firstly, thank you so much for your support so far. Every signature, share, and message has helped bring attention to an issue that affects not just childminders, but families and children across the country.
Due to recent updates and further clarification around the changes coming in April 2026, I have now updated the petition. We’ve learned that this is not only about losing the 10% wear and tear allowance, but also about losing clear allowances for household costs such as gas, electricity, water, and council tax. Childminders are instead being expected to calculate and evidence percentages of home use, which raises serious concerns about practicality, fairness, and fear of audits. I felt it was important that the petition reflects the full reality of what we are facing.
If you’ve already signed, thank you, and please take a moment to re-read the updated petition and share it again. Sharing really does make a difference, especially when it reaches friends, family members, parents, and anyone who relies on childcare.
To help keep all updates, media coverage, and next steps in one place, we’ve also set up a Facebook page for the campaign. Please consider joining it and inviting others to do the same. Having everything centralised will help when pointing MPs, journalists, and decision-makers to clear, up-to-date information.

Over the next few days, I’ll also begin sharing the campaign more widely on X (Twitter) to reach MPs, policymakers, and national organisations.
Thank you again for standing with childminders and families. Together, we can make sure this issue is seen, understood, and taken seriously.
With thanks,
Ashleigh
