Child Safety Shouldn’t Be a Luxury: Exempt Baby Gear from Tariffs

Child Safety Shouldn’t Be a Luxury: Exempt Baby Gear from Tariffs
The Issue
We are REBEL For A Cause, and we are calling on U.S. leaders to take urgent action: exempt essential baby gear—such as car seats, cribs, high chairs, and strollers—from tariffs that are raising costs for American families.
These products aren’t luxury items. They’re not optional. They’re safety necessities required by law and they’re critical to protecting and caring for our youngest generation.
Why this matters:
- Baby gear is essential.
Car seats, cribs, strollers, and high chairs aren’t optional—they’re crucial to child safety and early development. In all 50 states, car seats are required by law. - Raising a child is expensive - tariffs make it worse.
A recent BabyCenter survey shows it costs nearly $20,000 to care for a baby in their first year—including more than $1,000+ on safety gear alone. Tariffs inflate these prices even more, putting unnecessary pressure on American families. - There aren’t readily available alternatives to imports.
Currently, more than 90% of baby gear is manufactured outside of the United States. Without tariff exemptions, there is a risk of insufficient supply to meet the needs of US consumers. - There’s precedent.
In 2018, similar juvenile products were exempted from Section 301 tariffs. We’re not asking for special treatment, we are simply asking the government to do what’s right again.
What We’re Asking:
We are REBEL For A Cause, and we urge decision-makers to immediately exempt baby gear from existing and future tariffs
No family should be forced to choose between their child’s safety and their budget. This is about protecting families and supporting parents as they raise America’s future.
Sign now to stand with American families and demand affordable access to essential baby products, and share this petition with your community to spread the word.
