Ban dog market and restaurants in Nagaland

Ban dog market and restaurants in Nagaland
Why this petition matters

Since dog meat is not farmed in Nagaland, most dogs are illegally caught from Assam and Meghalaya and sent to Nagaland and Manipur for slaughter and consumption. Nearly 200 dogs are smuggled to these states every week. It is illegal under the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act, 1960. The dog meat trade in Nagaland is illegal and in violation of various laws, including Section 429 of the Indian Penal Code (IPC) that makes killing of animals an offence punishable with up to five years of imprisonment.
Many of the dogs either had their mouths stitched closed or were muzzled with tight ropes. “During transport and display in the markets, they are denied movement, food or water, before finally being clubbed to death.” HSI said the dogs are mass-slaughtered in “death pits” where they are beaten to death in front of other dogs, most of them beaten several times before dying.
Often, customers select the live dog they wish to purchase, which are then killed in the market. Before being butchered, the carcass is roasted over an open fire or thrown into scalding hot water to make it easier to remove their fur, the investigators claim.
It is so disappointing and disheartening to even look at the images, how can you allow such activities in your state. I know it has been going on from a long time but that does not make it right. We learn from history not to repeat the same mistakes.
This should reach Chief Secretary of Nagaland, Mr Temjan Toy so that he ask the police to stop this barbarism and the smugglers are caught and punished. If we don't make it happen, more and more dogs will be brought in and will be killed. Probably here is where all the street dogs which are caught in your cities are smuggled.
We need to act and this is a small start to the noble cause. Spread this along with your world all over to get more support.
