Media release from Scottish Fire and Rescue Service. (SFRS) " The University of Edinburgh has been confirmed as the preferred bidder for the former Scottish Fire and Rescue Service headquarters at Lauriston Place, Edinburgh. " ( Museum of Fire.) " Upon completion of contracts it is anticipated that the University will take possession at the beginning of 2017. " (Extension to the College of Art.) Is Nicola Sturgeon, First Minister, emulating, with SFRS, the asset stripping which Boris Johnston imposed on London Fire Brigade (LFB) last year when he was Lord Mayor of London ? Boris closed LFB Museum. Nicola is closing Edinburgh Museum of Fire. Boris has sold the home of LFB Museum. Nicola is selling the home of Edinburgh Museum of Fire. Boris has closed LFB Museum for an unknown number of years. (Estimate 3 to 5 years.) Nicola will close Edinburgh Museum of Fire for an unknown number of years. Boris may relocate LFB Museum to the former Lambeth Fire Station. Nicola may relocate Edinburgh Museum of Fire to McDonald Road Fire Station. * The similarities in asset stripping policy are remarkable. * The Edinburgh Museum of Fire is located in the city centre in the last complete 19th century Fire Station in the UK. McDonald Road Fire Station is a 1960's concrete monstrosity, not in the city centre. To learn about the history of firefighting in a 19th century Fire Station you must now visit Melbourne, Australia where they value their heritage and historic buildings more than does this Scottish Government ! Anyone with contacts at the University of Edinburgh or the College of Art or who could help with advice on retaining the Museum at Lauriston is asked to email museumoffireedin@gmail.com Thanking you, Friends of the Museum.
