The Friends of the Museum thank you for supporting their petition to have a partnership between the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service (SFRS) and Museums and Galleries Scotland, develop the Central Fire Brigade Station (Lauriston) and the Museum of Fire, Edinburgh into a world-class Scottish National Museum of Fire.
We have not promoted the petition while we awaited a Scottish Government response.
Museums Galleries Scotland have "passed the buck" by responding "Any decision on the sale of the building is a matter for the SFRS Board."
Part of the remit of the Fire Board is "to ensure the Scottish Government's priorities are implemented."
The Scottish Government's priorities have been confirmed by the Office of the First Minister, Nicola Sturgeon, which stated "Lauriston is to be sold."
So the building which was transferred, without payment, from council ownership to Scottish Government ownership in 2013 is now being asset stripped by SFRS and the Scottish Government.
We all agree that the last complete Victorian Fire Station in Great Britain should not be sold but should be retained as the home of the Museum of Fire.
The outstanding comments which you attached to the petition were much appreciated. Again, please show how much Lauriston and the Museum are appreciated.
Please forward the comments you originally attached to the petition, and anything further that you may wish to add, to the politicians and the Fire Board so that they are aware of your opinions.
Please consider adding a question, which would hopefully elicit a response and thus prove that your correspondence had been read.
