Condemn Bloomington Illinois Residents Who Desecrated The East Lawn Cemetery
The Issue
To: Mr. Tari Renner, Chief of Police Brendan Heffner, Bloomington Police Department, Mrs. Hillary Clinton, and Mr. Bernie Sanders.
This petition is calling for the public condemnation of the Bloomington Illinois residents who took part in the desecration of the East Lawn Cemetery on Sunday 3/13/16. The cemetery was desecrated because Trump supporters and protesters alike drove their vehicles over tombstones damaging at least 12 of them; trashed the entire cemetery as a whole with litter, debris, signs, and beer bottles; and used the cemetery as a place to park for the Donald Trump Rally. This rally was held at the Synergy Flight Center in Bloomington Illinois at 10:00 am.
I wish to petition the Mayor of Bloomington to publicly condemn the actions that took place regarding those who were involved, and the lack of actions from those who had the power to prevent such an atrocity from occurring.
Specifically, I wish for the Mayor to condemn the Bloomington Police Department, and specifically the Chief of Police Brendan Heffner, for not taking the necessary precautions needed to protect the cemetery (i.e. blocking it off with caution tape and a lack of appropriate response timing), as well as for not working actively to find and prosecute those who were involved. Mr. Renner also needs to condemn the Bloomington Police Department for advertising the exact schedule of the Trump rally on their Google+ website, as it has become clear his rallies incite extreme violence and destruction towards people and property.
I also wish to petition Mrs. Hillary Clinton and Mr. Bernie Sanders to publicly condemn the residents of Bloomington Illinois for committing such an unspeakable act of disrespect. I respectfully urge both Clinton and Sanders to encourage Mayor Renner, Chief of Police Brendan Heffner, and the Bloomington Police Department as a whole to take this petition into serious consideration. As candidates competing for the Democratic Ticket to run our country, I think it is imperative that they as leaders speak out against this kind of thing and use their influence to urge those in power to do the right thing.
Think about all of the innocent people affected by the insanity of this event. There are families out there with desecrated plots to their loved ones and they have yet to receive justice for these very illegal actions. I personally was affected because I too have family buried in that cemetery. The most disgraceful part of this outrageous event is that the deceased cannot speak out about the offense that took place; their place of peace and rest was unjustly disturbed due to a hateful man and the violence and destruction he brings with him to his rallies. We who are alive and well are the only ones who can speak out against this and demand justice for the innocent lives, and most importantly the deceased, who were caught up in this s***storm. We as a collective group of people need to speak out against this kind of thing, and we owe it to the deceased as a sign of respect.
This is an outrage and a disgrace to the entire town of Bloomington Illinois, and to the State of Illinois as a whole. This could have been prevented if proper measures were taken, and the situation can still be rectified to an extent if the proper officials do their jobs by condemning those who did not. If you are as angry as I am about the desecration of the East Lawn Cemetery, please sign this petition and share it everywhere you can.
