The Union Cabinet has approved the Agra and Kanpur Metro Rail Project which involves 29.4 kilometers and 33 kilometers of rail corridor in the cities respectively. 

While this project offers better connectivity to the people in both the cities and promoting a promising step towards lowering vehicular traffic on the roads in the future, it all is coming at a cost more valuable than money. In Agra alone, almost 2792 trees are to be cut down to lay the foundation of the project.

With the deteriorating state of nature, the least could be done is to compensate or relocate the trees which are to be cut down. Though, it is difficult to determine the value of 50-100 year old trees but it can be compensated by planting the trees in a different location. The main proposal of this petition for the authorities is to plant trees in place of every tree cut down or relocate any tree possible to a suitable location.

Metro services will improvise the public transport system and will definitely reduce the carbon emissions in the cities made by vehicles by providing a more efficient public transport system in the long run but achieving that at the cost of mass deforestation is too much for anyone to bear.
