ROLL BACK THE DECISION TO REPLACE KRISHNATH COLLEGE WITH THE MURSHIDABAD UNIVERSITY AND RECONSIDER NEW PLACE
The people of Murshidabad are disappointed and dejected with the decision of the West Bengal Government to replace the century old KN College with the newly proposed Murshidabad University. The much acclaimed KN College, a distinct college having historical and academic importance of its own, have earned name and fame in the district as well as in state. Thus, the replacement of the historic college with the proposed university will lead to another deprivation- deprivation of history and privileged legacy. Among very few numbers of colleges in Mursidabad, KN College stands tall with academic excellence attracting meritorious students from entire Murshidabad and other adjacent districts. Notwithstanding the demands of population of the district, Murshidabad does not have enough colleges. The people of Murshidabad badly need a university, but not at the cost of an esteemed historical college.
University needs space for deliberation, discussion and expansion of knowledge and the established College does not provide congenial environment to nourish the intellectual brain and mind of the researcher and academicians. Without any doubt KN College is excellent college, but it does not have adequate space for the extension of Departments, Faculties, and Research centres. Moreover, the scattered campus, hostels and separate administrative buildings will surely obstruct the proper functioning of the University in the long run as students, researchers, academicians and administrators shall face severe difficulties in establishing communication at the overcrowded Berhampore town.
If the college is replaced with the proposed university, the faculty members of Krishnath College will continue to be the faculty members of the university—the continuation of the college teacher as university faculty without proper knowledge of research will be a setback for the newly established university.
The Govt is earnestly requested to reconsider its decision to retain the dignity of Krishnath College and establish a distinct University in Murshidabad in new place for the wellbeing of the District. We request you to consider new places for the proposed university in the adjacent areas of NH-34 or Lalbagh state highway where enough place for a university is available.
